Cash drawer installation guide

NOTE: Serial cash drawers are antiquated technology and are not supported. If you're using a serial cash drawer and have any issues with it, you'll need to upgrade to a USB drawer.

USB Cash Drawer Type

The USB Cash Drawer is a plug and play device.  Plug the proper end into the cash drawer and plug the other end into an available USB port on the computer.  (USB hubs may not work).  Windows 7, 8, 10 should recognize the device.

Click on File, System Options, Local tab.

On the bottom left under "Cash drawer connection type", choose USB.  If the cash drawer was purchased from Software Connection, it is an APG/Local Controls.  Choose that brand from the drop down and click Apply.  You may use the 'Test" button to test the opening of the drawer.  Click OK when done.

If the cash drawer was not purchased through Software Connection and it is not an APG/Local Controls brand, choose "Other".  The device may or may not function.  Any hardware not purchased through Software Connection is not covered under your support plan and we will not be able to assist.

With the cash drawer installed, you can now use the "Open Drawer" button to open your cash drawer.

RJ11 Receipt Printer Cash Drawer Type

The receipt printer cash drawer connects to the receipt printer using the supplied RJ11 cable.  With proper settings, this allows the cash drawer to be opened automatically after a receipt is printed.  Please note that the receipt printer must be installed prior to this installation.  Please also note that the RJ11 cable that is supplied with the cash drawer is wired differently than regular RJ11 cables.  If ordering replacements, be sure they can handle the operation.

1.  Using the RJ11 cable, plug one end into the cash drawer port and the other end into the appropriate RJ11 port on the receipt printer.

2.  On your computer, nagivate to "Devices & Printers".

Windows 7 - Start, Control Panel, Devices & Printers.

Windows 8/10 - Press the Windows key + X key and choose Control Panel.  In the upper right hand corner, change view to "Small icons".  Click on Devices & Printers.

3.  Locate the Star TSP 100 or whichever receipt printer you're using.  (Instructions written for Star receipt printers sold by Software Connection).  Right click it and choose "Printer Properties".  Then click on the "Device Settings" tab.  Inside the device settings tab, set the Peripheral Unit Type to Cash Drawer and set the Peripheral Unit 1 to Document Top.  Click Apply and OK.

Open Kennel Connection.

Click on File, System Options, Local tab.

At the bottom left under "Cash drawer connection type", choose "Receipt Printer".  If the cash drawer was purchased from Software Connection, it is an APG/Local Controls.  Choose that brand from the drop down.  Click Apply.  You may use the "Test" button to test the opening of the drawer.  Click OK when done.

If the cash drawer was not purchased through Software Connection and is not an APG/Local Controls brand, choose "Other".  This device may or may not function.  Any hardware not purchased through Software Connection is not covered under your support plan and we will not be able to assist.

If the "test" button did not pop the drawer, close this screen and go to Accounting, Receipts.  Modify a receipt and choose the "Print" button.  Print the receipt to the receipt printer and see if the drawer pops open.  If it does, the install was correct.  The "Open drawer" button should also work.  If nothing is opening the drawer, please contact support for assistance.  Support@KennelConnection.net or 1-888-486-4343 x 504.

With the receipt printer cash drawer installed, you can use the "Open drawer" button to open the cash drawer or it will automatically open after a receipt is printed if configured correctly.
